Does
Breastfeeding hurt?
Some books you read say if it hurts, you’re
doing it wrong. That is actually incorrect. Most women experience
some discomfort, if not outright pain when they first latch a baby
on. I call it an “eyes watering – toes curling experience”.
However within a couple of minutes, it should become tolerable.
If it is tolerable, it is correct. If it is still excruciating,
relatch the baby. Most soreness dissipates within 2 weeks.
What
makes you qualified?
I am a International Board Certified
Lactation Consultant for the last 9 years and have been teaching
Breastfeeding classes for 20 years. I am a mother of twin boys and
nursed them for 9 month. If I can do it, anybody can!
Why
do I need to take a Breastfeeding Class?
While Breastfeeding is a natural process, it's mostly a learned
art. The more you know, the less problems you will have. After attending
a class, you will be aware of the obstacles and know how to handle
them.
Can
I prepare for Breastfeeding before the baby comes?
The more you know beforehand, the better. If you can attend a class,
or watch this video prior to your delivery, it will greatly help.
You will know what to expect as well as know the obstacles that
may occur.
When
should I start taking classes?
It is recommended the class should end 2 4 weeks before the
baby is due. Thats in case the baby is early youre prepared,
yet not so far in the past that the information you learned is forgotten.

complete Breastfeeding Class is essential for every mother
to be. |
In addition to attending a breastfeeding
class, should I get one on video?
The big advantage is, that you can review often after you deliver
especially if you are facing specific obstacles.
Also, if you take a Breastfeeding Class, you will practice the positions
with dolls. Breastfeeding a doll is not the same thing as Breastfeeding
a live baby. On this DVD we show live demonstrations of both holds
and positions. Once
you are at home, seeing a real mom breastfeeding on the video, with
all the different positions, will help you, to overcome the obstacles,
especially if you have twins.
How
do I know the baby is getting enough?
There are three ways to know if the baby is getting enough.
1) After the milk comes in, the baby should have lots of wet and
dirty diapers on a daily basis.
2) The baby should be calm and sleepy after a good feed (similar
to how you feel after a big Thanksgiving meal).
3) The baby should be gaining weight appropriately – as checked
by your pediatrician.
For partners, should they also take
a breastfeeding class?
Two sets of ears are always better than one. Pregnant women have
little memory and their partners can be a great support, if they
know what is going on.
I already attended a breastfeeding class,
why should I get one on video?
A second timer often wants a refresher to remind them of what they
learned the first time. The video makes it much more convenient,
without the cost of a babysitter and the time it takes to go to
classes.
I
believe humor is the best way to teach any subject. You will always
remember it easier and over a longer period of time. This is what
makes my classes so special.
Over
the years, many of my couples approached me to present my classes
on video, because they wanted to buy it for other couples, review
it again at their own pace and in the convenience of their own home
or be updated on new developments in breastfeeding. Finally, their
wish came to reality in the form of this 50 minutes video class.

I have viewed this dvd, part of the video I have viewed more than
once. One of the advantages of owning it.
I cannot express enough what a great tool this is in preparing couples
for the big event.

Hello Sheri! My mom is an ER nurse and my husband is a surgeon and
we were very grateful that we have your course on DVD. I have recommended
it to a lot of people. We live 75 miles from the medical center
we will be going to in San Diego and I was very concerned about
having a quality class to attend locally (and I did not want to
drive more than I already need to for doctor appointments down the
freeway).
